Hi
My Toshiba 1805-s204 has what is called a "software modem" in it. This is
what is described in the hardware list in XP. I am assuming this is a
winmodem which is why has not been responding in Mandrake 9.0. Therefore, I
am considering a pcmcia modem in order to use Mandrake on this notebook.

I found that I had bought a pcmia winmodem, so I returned it and bought one by
a company called Zonet ( http:www.zonet.com.tw/main.htm) it said 100% hardware
modem on the box and it actually is, worked with both 7.1 and 7.2 (kernels as
included in the distro.) I bought it from a small wholesaler

I understand, but I'd like some recommendations about PCMCIA modems which
are know to work well with Linux.

Anyone got any surefire PCMCIA modem advise?
I want to put Mandrake on a laptop, but the modem in it now is one of those
winmodems things. Works fine under W95 but forget anything else.
