Well! This is what I did -- not pretty! I reinstalled 9.1. I let the installer select the defaut driver cs46xx. After installation, I selectively installed alsa. Rebooted, cs46xx failed to load. Went to harddrake and selected driver cs4232. Rebooted, cs4243 loaded. Now there is a speaker on

I tend to agree, but since we often have to work with what we've got Meanwhile, I would run HardDrake from the mcc. Select the card, and see what it says it is. I can't remember the names on the two buttons on the right, but try them. One of them will show suggested alternative drivers.

After I installed 9.1 a while ago, I used aumix to uncheck Mute All, and the sound worked. Next time I booted it was check on again. I unchecked it, saved, quit aumix, started it again and it was ckecked again. Went round and round with aumix with no luck. NOW it won't even come up. Run from K
