anybody know how to setup quake2 so you can play it as a normal user?
I'm really iffy about running a game as root but it refuses to start up
for any other user.

I recently bought Quake 2 for linux only to fidn that I can't get it to work.
If I run it in software x11 mode, the screen is the size of postage stamp,
if i try to use any of the other acceleration modes (I have a Gefore 256 vid
card) it seg faults or core dumps and says that to run it in tho
Hi everyone,
I recently installed Mandrake 7.0 on my Win98SE PC
and I have a few q's.
1. I have a CL Live! Value sound card.
It plays in KDE fine, with MP3's and the system sounds and the like.
However, when playing Quake 2, the sound gets broken up and sounds like it is
reverbing. I
re-isntall the game. Other than
that.. Don't know how to solve
Good Luck,

My mistake - it's actually rpmfind.net! It's a great resource, and it will
show you all the dependencies you'll need for an application so that you
can be sure you have everything.

Thanks everyone who replied to my email.
i will try killing gpm and running quake after i have sent this, whats more
important than the mouse is getting quake2 to run in X.
I changed my init levels to 5 so X starts up at boot and you cant log out into
console. when i run quake and it closes my X s

Has anyone got quake to working on Mandrake yet ?
if so how
I got Q2 and Q1 working on my linux Box. They work ok considering I have
to run it in software, but due to the fact that it is in software, I can't
change the resolution any higher then the default of like 320x400 or
something. If you have a 3dfx card then you can get it working a lot better.
