In what configuration file should xset - commands be placed?
e.g. I normally prefer to run xset r rate but am sick of doing it by hand
what is the appropriate place to put this command so that it's loaded when x
starts?

Because of your default depth setting, you tell it to use 16 and it does...

If I read your request correctly I think you need to edit your Screen sections.
I have mine set for "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
You just edit the lines where you see Modes in each Subsection "Display" in your
XF86Config-4 file.

free) which allows its to run under windows (i.e. like the commercials
offerings Hummingbird-Exceed etc.) and have a windows compatible Wm ? In the

It may be a difference between RH and freeBSD
but in my environment(i.e. RH 7.2) it is /etc/X11/x which should be a symlink to
/usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86

I am having trouble getting the X server to work with a S3 inc Trio64V2Turbo video
card.
There are people on the net that have these cards operating but I don't seem to be

to jag a setting that will let X start. I also get a "You Don't have permission" when

basically your card should be supported by both version (OK there are these ominous

I tried to update to 4.2.0 many times. I even reinstall my whole system.
But every time I updated to 4.2.0. kde and gnome refused to work. But there
is no XFree86.9.log in /var/log. when use kde, it reports dcop errors. when
use gnome it says the owner of /tmp/.ICE-unix should be root then exit
