I have this weird problem: I run sndconfig (all versions I tried its the same
error) as root and in a certain time we gives this error:
"It wasnt possible to play audio"
"An error has occourred in the opening of"
"/dev/audio"
what can I do?
Is there any way to make my screen smaller (or to make things smaller in my
screen) without changing the resolution? because my screen doesnt support a
higher resolution than this... :\\ A friend of mine told me it was: "ctrl" +
"alt" + "+/-" depending if you wanted to enlarge or smallen your
I have a OPTI 82C924 and I have mdk7.2. the sndconfig of mdk7.2 it's too good
for my card so I used the one in mdk7.1 but keeps giving me the same error.

MAD16 / Mozart: Invalid Midi port 0x0
and YES I LISTEN TO THE AU
I am a happy man! finally I made it to install mandrake 7.2 and running net
with him! :)) I just wanted to ask 1 more thing. I keep having problems with
startx with every linux I installed. what console tool can I use to configure
my startx (other than xf86config) when I for example put a too

I had a problem with my Opti soundcard (different model), got round it by
installing sndconfig from my 7.1 CD and running it, it's fine now
and where can I get that rpm version? can U tell me what version is that and
a valid URL to get it please?
thx
where can I get the sndconfig of mandrake 7.1 without being the ISO... just
that file. cause my sound card (OPTI 82C924) worked in mdk7.1 (bad... but
worked!) and in 7.2 I cant get it to work... so... can U please send me one
sndconfig URL of mdk7.1?
thx
my problem is this:
after I boot with the disk7 to the 7.2 instalatio I
get this really cool screen with the options F1 or Enter. After choosing "Enter"
he detects the cdrom, initializes it and enters the setup process (another cool
screen). he asks the language, the expert/costum thing and
after the graphical menu "F1" or "Enter" I get a black screen with blue
windows detecting things but then I get the error message: "cannot mount
cdrom" and then another warning saying that wasn't supposed to happen and
that he will reboot my machine... why doesnt he accepts my cdrom and if this
the system stops at the the partition part. when I choose the option "use
the free space in the windows part" he detects one more thing and then asks
me if I ran the scanreg in windows and if i didn't tells me to run it and
when I'm sure to press "ok" but the buttons dont work and the system is
what file do i have to dnload to install from the beginning MDK 7.2? is it
Mandrake72-inst.iso? and if it is them what is the other iso for?
thx
So all i have to do is burn the iso to a CD?? and then what happens? I dont
understand what I'm doing... what the cd looks like after a ISO burning...
could you tell me some hints?
thx
ok, so I burn the CD (yes I have a burner in windows and a software too(eazy
cd creator)) and I get a boot cd right? but that boot cd is a boot cd that I
can start? because for example my bios cannot boot with a cd... only floppy
and hdd... so I was wondering if... maybe I could start it from

I have this problem:
I only have 1 disk and I have 2 Gb for mdk and 4 for win and every time I
try to erase the mdk partition the 2 Gb space of mdk dont become 1 with the
4 gb of windows forming the inicial 6 Gb! and if I try to install linux
again without erasing the partition he doesnt detect
I know that XF86Setup is case sensitive but the problem I have is with
xf86config. this one IN NOT case sensitive and the "command not found"
errors he gives me are internal (i think) it's not the same thing has when
you write some shit on the console and he says "command not found" but this
one
well here is my situation:
I'm under a PI 120, 81Mb RAM, Mandrake 7.1
I already made it to setup sound card and ethernet but now the only thing
that I could do before (configuring X) is making me MAD! this is what I get
from some commands in the console:
XConfigurator
bash: XConfigurator :

Subject: RE: [newbie] (...) X is getting hard to get!! (setuptool???)
is it not Xconfigurator (with a small c)?

I dont know what else to do... I already tried XF86Config, XF86Setup,
Xconfigurator... the first gives me internal "command not found" errors,
like
"/usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config: modeline: command not found"
the other 2 run well but everytime I try to "startx" he starts and exits
imediatly with this
I ran harddrake and he detected my PCI Ethernet ALN-201 Card but when I
reboot he tells me this in the boot:
Cant find a dhcp client
how can I configure this dhcp server or how can I get my ethernet to work
properly?
thx
You could do a search for the opti number on Google.com. Perhaps there is
a
site where you can find more info. The chipset used is the same as used on
the Mozart 16bit card, and the specs for the Midiport are probably off in
this set. 0x0 would mean that the midi port is configured on port
Hmmm.. ?? You mean that while configuring the card with sndconfig, you can
hear the midi sample that is played?
Very weird...
Paul
YES! THAT'S IT! I can hear the man talking and then the midi sample (freq up
then freq down) but when I exit he says: "Invalid midi port 0x0"
dont i need to
That card is running in PNP mode. The only thing I can tell you to do is
the following to see if it works.
Type this at the console:
pnpdump
Your soundcard should show up on there: Then do this:
pnpdump /etc/isapnp.conf
then,
isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf
REBOOT and see if it works.
Ok now we got some info.
On the network card you have to use the ne2k-pci module for it
to run. You can set that up in linuxconfig. I'm looking into
the sound card.

What happened to my xwindows?? all I can see now is a console window in a
blue background, there is no start bar, icons and the resolutions stinks!
what can I do to configure xstart to run gnome or kde instead of that blue
background where I have to choose the place to place a window when I
thk u for the xplanation about the sound card. It's running well now :)) I'm
already listening to slayer lol but one thing I would like to be doing was
listening to slayer and in the net at the same time... but my ethernet keeps
letting me down... give me some other hints ok? thx once again []
I have a AOpen PCI ALN-201 card but I cant configure it!
I already changed the kernel module to "ne", "ne2k-pci" but he keeps telling
me this in the boot:
"Cant find a dhcp client"
I also have something else:
in my windows configuration I got all the IP's and port's that I could get
before
So what can I do to fix that problem? no, I'm not networking systems. Im
just one user. (if that was the question...) so what do I type in handing
out addresses? Im not sure what i'm asking so... if you were me what would
you do to make it work?
thx

Well that modprobe dhcp-client gives this msg:
"Cant locate module dhcp-client"
But tell me how did you configured your network access?? I'm not running
liek a server I'm just a user so it would be easy (I think...) how did you
did it?
thx

just a little question... err in my /usr/src dir I have nothing else
except a /RPM dir... shouldnt it have a /linux dir that contained kernel??
that's weird... can it be in somewhere else? or hidden...?
thx
n Sunday 12 November 2000 22:00, Krulo keyboarded:
run XConfigurator (as root), and check that you select a video mode that
is supported by your card.
Paul
xf86config gives me "command not found" errors... what about now?
