Hi! I'm trying to learn basic programming and running into trouble.
When I try (echo Hello, how are you) I have no problem but some of the commands
(like chmod u+x hello) do not work. I get an error that says chmod no such file or
directoy yet when I do a file search chmod is there. I'm useing

I thought spam was sending e-mail that someone is trying to sell me something or
someone sending me repeated e-mail even when I have asked them not to.

I'm sorry I didn't know the situation. It sounds to me like this was not a mistake. I
have made mistakes sending mail. I would apoligize for shure plus it would not be
multiple or bulk. You are right that the newbie list is not the place for it. No place
is the place for SPAM.

Hi! I'm haveing trouble with sound. I am useing mandrake 7.2 and have an sb16 sound
card. I have configured my card so that I can play music
cd but I have no sound when it comes to games or window startup and shutdown.
Any ideas would be helpful.

Also I'm wondering how is it that people get spammed?
The only time I have been spammed is when I went to a chat room. Going to chat rooms
seems to be a way of saying come on everybody spam me.

I really like the linux comminity because I find people are always willing to help. I
have learned much from all of you and have much to learn yet. I did a low level format
on my 486 and this really wiped out the boot sector.

Hi All! I'm useing mandrake 7.2. I was dualbooting win95. I decided to re-install and
get rid of win95. win95 served me well for a long time
BUT: I got pissed off with bsod. As well looking at upgradeing $ how many times does
Bill expect people to upgrade at his prices? Ask me about AOL and
I re-installed my computer and decided that I didn't want win95 any more. I was
wondering how can I make sure windows is totally gone?

Hi! I've switch from kde to gnome and I don't know howto setup icons.

One problem I have ran into when re-installing mandrake 7.2 is that whatever problems
I had with the first install would ocour again when I tried to re-install a second
time.
I am dual booting win95. I found that if I went into dos and typed
fdisk /mbr then did a fresh install it went well. I
I figured out the problem. My 6x86 p200 is low on resource. At least this is the
messege I get when installing mandrake 7.2.
I don't understand this as I have 40 megs of ram and I am installing it on a 6gig
hardrive. The first gig hardrive has win95. I decided to try a text install with
