My 450's evaporative control system was removed by the previous owner
and the bike runs fine. If you are re-using your old cap make sure it
is vented. The cap on the california models is supposed to seal tight
and the tank is vented through the evap system.

I put my new spitfires on this last weekend, and they're great. Of
course anything would have been an improvement over my old worn out

well. I actually rode the bike around for about 2 days with no

I'm in the market for new tires too. I'm leaning towards the
Bridgestone S11 Spitfire or the BT-45 Battlax.
Anyone tried either of these?

I think you'd find there is not enough room to mount both, as well as
the fact that the stock speedometer would be disconnected to run the
new one. My speedometer had died so I had no qualms about removing the
stock equipment.

Dave,
I will post some pics soon, probably on the weekend. The only part I
needed from electrosport was the speed sensor. The magnetic bolts they
offer were not the correct size for my rotor. Here is a link to the
speed sensor I used ->

Hi All,
A few months ago I wrote in about a occasional stalling problem which
turned about to be a venting issue for the gas tank. Much discussion
ensued regarding swollen gaskets and modern gas formulation. Well this
weekend I found the real source of my trouble. As reported previously
it was in
Hi Kyle,
I've put a new speedo/tach unit on my '86 450 since my old speedo
blew up. This is the unit I have

It takes a little work, but now does the job beautifully.

Hi All,
Y'all were so helpful with my non-venting gas cap problem, I thought
I'd try again with another problem. As stated above I have an '86 450
with about 17k miles now. I checked the steering head bearings at one
point and they were loose. I tightened the bearings and they seem ok,

Jeremy,
There are a few options listed on the J.C. Whitney site. I haven't
tried one but I've been tempted.

Another quick thought. Would a full tank make the problem worse? I was
thinking of the volume of air in the tank, I maybe off base here.
Thanks.

Hi All,
As the message header indicates I'm a recent addition to the nighthawk
group, new to nighthawks and new to riding. I own a 1986 450,named
Jenny by the previous owner, that I picked up here in the L.A. area
with a questionable 18k on the odometer. Questionable only because the
speedo was
