Signal from the CDI on the yellow wire goes to the tach and one of the
coils. While the section that goes to the tach could be an issue, but if it
had a short it would affect coil operation. You may just have a busted
tach. Either way you won't get any good resistance measurements if it is
plugged

Recant, that is what brakes on the 91-02 750. Your tach issue is elsewhere
I'd bet the fuse panel. You said it is an 83 650?

Ok so I just tested the resistance of the yellow wires from end of harness to
cdi box and the readings jump all over the place. From about 2.3 to 13.1 ohms.
It's wild. Have the meter set at 200. What's this mean?

What would be a good and a bad reading on the resistance check

Just go by feel and sound of engine, and you don't have to cut the harness
open, just resistance checks from end to end at connectors.

Going to require cutting some old and I mean OLD electrical tape but I guess it
has to be done. When it works I flipping love it. I love being able to see
where I am on the engine and rev matching is a breeze. I can do it by feel and
whatnot at this point, but it's nice to have that tach. Anyone
I'd personally wouldn't get to worried about the tach. It's something you can
live without. However, try tracing wires to the tach first before condemning
gauge or cdi.

So then is it possible my cdi box is fuckered up or more likely my gauges? I
stripped the ground that's under the tank and put a new "cap" on it. The lights
on my gauges are a lot brighter now Ives noticed but still not tach.

That's the deal under the seat correct? Man I've cleaned those contacts so many
times. Well at least 2-3. Does the cdi box get the tach signal from anywhere
else or is that where it originates?

The tach gets its signal from the CDI box. If memory serves it's a yellow
striped wire.

All the other gauges and meters work flawlessly. Which has me thinking it's not
a ground or everything would be cutting in and out. That leaves the wire that
runs from the coil to the tach housing or the tach itself, correct? Am I right
to assume the tach jacks into the ignition coil?

The bike is an 83 cb650 nighthawk. It's an electric tach. Thanks!

When mine does that I clean the connections, the black plug behind the

Morning guys. I'll get right to it.
My tachometer works 1-3 days every month or so and then cuts out for extended
periods of time. Does anyone have anywhere I can start on this thing? Where are
the grounds for the tach/gauges. This is driving me nuts! The entire rest of
the gauge cluster works
I have an 82 450. I guess it is not as fast as 13,s in a quarter mile. I
believe I once saw a quoted time of around 14 seconds or so. But gas
mileage can be good. I got 65 MPG on my last tankful.

I have traced the wire from the tack to the ignition module under the

My question is: Does anyone know what type signal I should be getting
on this wire? Is it a pulse signal? Or does this somehow connect to
