Hi.
Did you find a solution to your problem? I have been searching for a cam
chain tensioner and the spring
now, for so long, and I am about to give up.
I find it really really strange that there are NOONE who knows where to get
either
NOS or OEM parts. With that many bikes around the world, it
I would also add, and I keep forgetting this, to check the vacuum line between
the # 2 carb boot and the petcock. If it is sucking air, there may not be
enough gas getting into the carbs and if the petcock is leaking it may be
draining away even more fuel before it gets to the carbs.
On Aug 13,
I will confirm you have an '83 assuming I am seeing your "Run/off" switch
correctly. '83 is a rotating switch and after they went to a toggle.
Invest a little extra and get a dry battery from Autozone or Advance Auto.
Worth the money. I THINK the battery will fit in either way as far as +\- go
1a sounds normal, they all take choke to start and idle low at first. Also
if they sit some gas will evaporate from the carbs so they take a bit to
fill back up. At 70 degrees the RPMs should shoot up within 1 minute of
running, if not your carbs are dirty.

Hi Arlen, as Javier and Kurt have said yours is at least an 83 CB650SC. The
same model was produced for three years, 1983 - 1985. The colors were different
and the 1983 choke is pushed up to engage it. The 84 and 85, you push the choke
lever down to engage. Sounds like your choke cable needs to
Hey Arlen, welcome to the group.
Looks like your 650 is an '83 or later, since it's shaft drive.
Issue 1, a & b: these bikes are a little cold natured, so they need the
choke. If yours doesn't start moving the plungers until halfway through the
travel by all means adjust it. I'd recommend, if you
Arlen,
welcome to the group. I will let the more experienced guys to reply your
questions. I'll say that's a pretty good looking $700 nighthawk! the year
of your bike should be in a plate at the steering column. But judging from
the picture, your bike does not looks like an 82.
Javier.

Thanks for the quick response, though I do not see a link to the "thread

revised parts, like a tensioner assembly and a spring that were supposedly
updated revisions and fixed the problem. I've heard of a guy here in

Shouldn't I also replace the cam tensioner setup also, or do I just need a
new chain? Also, are the parts for chain and tensioner the same for the
650, 700 and 750?
Thanks Mustapha!

There was a McMaster spring swap floating around that cures the rattle, but
it's *not* a direct replacement spring, so results vary somewhat wildly.
If you have a friend in Europe, I've been told you can still get the
springs over there from dealers.

I have been told it will hurt nothing. Just let it rattle.

Here is a thread where they were discussing it. Dennis Hammerl is a Lister
who is also a bike mechanic, however he is not normally active on the list
any more. Sometimes he lurks, so maybe you'll get lucky and he will chime
in.

Change
Change the fluids regularly use motor oil that's compatible with a bike's wet
clutch. Keep the bike in a good state of maintenance, store it in a garage if
possible, check tire pressure before each ride. If you have a chain drive lube
frequently and clean/adjust with each oil change. Once a year
