The Bronx-Westchester CBC held December 26 found apreliminary 116 species. Two
new species were added to this 93 year count; thePink-footed Goose and Cackling
Goose remained for count day in Van CortlandtPark. This brings the cumulative
total of the count to 230 species.
Other highlights:
Red
The Black-headed Gull found Wednesday at Five Island Park, New Rochelle was
seen this morning roosting on the small island in front of the sewage treatment
plant. At 8 am it woke up and flew over to the plant to the tank closest to the
park road. This makes it to count week for the Bronx-Westche

I found a male Summer Tanager at Lenoir Nature Preserve in Yonkers, lower
Westchester County at 11:30 AM today. It was?along the path between the nature
center and the Beverly E Smith Butterfly and Hummingbird Garden. I lost sight

The 90th Bronx-Westchester Christmas BirdCount found a preliminary 120 species
with over 55,000 birds.
Highlights were a count week Semipalmated Plover inPelham Bay Park and a female
King Eider off Scotch Capp Island in Rye. It wasthe first King Eider on the
count since 1956.

date.

The Bronx-Westchester Christmas Bird Count will be held next Sunday, December
22, 2013.
The count has recorded 227 species and averages 117 species a year. Last year
we tied the high of 126 species and had 100 participants for the first time.
