of people searching at Robert Moses SP this morning and later in the day, we
got a call just after 9:00 a.m. from Dave Chernak whose group had just had a

The Cave Swallows that had been the last 2 days at Venetian Beach in
Lindenhurst were not seen from 8:30 -11:30 this morning. The 2 immature
skimmers were still on the beach with the gulls, also sometimes joined by an
immature Common Tern. A 1st cycle Lesser Black-backed Gull was at the western
2 right now at the end of the 4 wheel drive trail, just before you get onto the
beach.

Maybe I’m jumping the gun on this and good numbers of Cave Swallows will
be seen along the Atlantic coast of NY this weekend, but I find it
puzzling that so many have been seen down in Cape May recently and only
a handful here thus far.
Even taking into account Cape May’s history of hosting subs

A little before 10:30 this morning, Celeste Morien and I had three swallows

Hello all,
I have posted a few full frame images of the flock of Cave Swallows I saw
today. When I looked at the photos I saw that there were one Tree Swallow
mixed in the flock. In one of the images I counted 34 swallows, but when I
pulled my zoom lens back and fired off the "flock shots" there we

Hello all,
One flock of about 25-30 Cave Swallows appeared over the perpendicular pond
about 3 minutes ago. They buzzed around over the pond for about 20-30
seconds and then disappeared. Almost two hours of MRS and half-an-hour of
waiting at the pond. Awesome. Life bird.

The previously reported cave swallows continue at the pond in the cemetery
on Staten Island. They put in a brief appearance around 9:15am. The flock
consisted of 10 birds and contained only cave swallows and they flew around
and drank from the pond. A single tree swallow preceded them and did not

To follow up on Joe Trezza's email, there were at least 65 and more likely 80
cave Swallows. Yes I said 80. One flock had at least 50 birds. The other had
15-20 and there were birds flying between them. The flock was quickly forming
and breaking up and dispersing, only to reappear minutes later.
At least 4 Cave Swallows over the West End 2 parking lot now. Interacting with
Tree Swallows.

There has been a good flight of Cave Swallows at Hamlin Beach (Monroe

aware of any being reported from coastal sites today or over the
