Hi All,
Had an interesting gull fly onto the jetty adjacent to the western most part of
the parking lot at Point Lookout yesterday around 6pm. Sent some pics for
review (Thank you so much Shai!!) and the bird indeed is an Iceland Gull.
Wanted to put up a post here in case anyone is down that way

This morning, a 1Cy (calendar year) ICELAND GULL (Kumlieni) was observed at
Brooklyn Army Terminal Pier 4. At some point it flew north, and I relocated it
at Bush Terminal Piers Park.
While looking for the Iceland Gull I found a drake EURASIAN WIGEON. Which was
in the company of a hen and drake
Richard Aracil and I got an Iceland gull from Twin islands in Pelham bay park this afternoon, it is now perched on the rocks in front of High island. And a Goshawk just flew next to us on Twin island 5 min ago, likely still in the area. Pictures of both birds will be posted on ebird. Matthieu Sent

At 4:15 p.m. today, a first-winter Iceland Gull was at the marina on the
east side of Port Jefferson Harbor, viewed from the parking lot of
Danford's Inn. This is evidently the same bird recorded on the Smithtown
count (December 27), found a few days before by Peter Scully.

Another interesting adult Iceland Gull was in the Jones Beach West End 2
parking lot during the mid-day today. Characteristics included a rather
large, angular head, pale but not yellow eye, and blackish wing tips. To my
eye, the overall size appeared a tad larger than the closest Herring Gull.

My wife Betsy and I saw very well an Iceland Gull in the dredging area of
Montauk Harbor. Other birds of interest were Horned Grebe, five
Bonaparte's Gulls, Belted Kingfisher and many Common Loons all seen from Rod's
Valley
in Montauk.

the reservoir amongst Ring-billed and Herring Gulls. It was similar in size
to the Herring Gulls, with a mantle more pale than those of the surrounding

Gary Strauss, just called to report an Iceland Gull (Kumlien's) in the
parking lot at Field 6 Jones Beach LI. I believe the bird was found
by Pat Jones.

Hi all,
I was just looking at an adult Iceland Gull roosting on the north side of the
water at Southards Pond, Babylon. The flock then flew and I lost it but it
still could be there.

Doug Gochfeld asked me to post he is currently looking at a juvenile
Iceland Gull on the lake in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.
The bird was initially spotted from the peninsula, but is closest to the
red rescue ladder near Three Sisters Islands.

Thanks to Ardith Bondi for posting this for me. As a result a number
of birders come to see the bird. It was present all afternoon and is
extremely tame, coming to bread, within five feet of the observer.

I led a seabirds and seals tour around NY Harbor for NYC Audubon yesterday
afternoon (1/27).
It was a relatively balmy and calm day, and low tide, which allowed for
excellent views of sunning seals on the rocks of Swinburne Island.

There was an adult ICELAND GULL and 2 RED-NECKED GREBES feeding off shore of
the Coney Island boardwalk at 37th street. This is the western end of the
boardwalk.

There was a first-winter ICELAND GULL (l.g. kumlieni) on Coney Island Creek in
Brooklyn this afternoon. I observed the bird from about 1-2 p.m. from the
parking lot behind Mark Twain Junior High School. This is on Neptune Avenue
between 24th and 25th Street.
