I had it last weekend. At the time I thought it was a pale Common since I
didn't know the one there was a exilipes ssp. I was thinking hornemanni ssp.
since that it was I've seen here in the northeast.

Has anyone narrowed down the meadowlark from Croton Pt. Park last February that
was with the redpolls, sparrows, etc. along the path to ssp.? From my photos
it sure looks like argutula from the southeast. Just wondering.

As of this evening at dusk the Great White Heron was still there with the other
herons and Laughing Gulls south of Marie's Pt. Gave great looks in the fading
light. Nice to have seen them in CT, NY, and FL:-)

Just saw that the widely ranging Steller's Sea-Eagle has been seen in US
finally in Dighton, MA, on the 9th I believe. Unfortunately it wasn't reported
until today and hasn't been seen since. It was only a matter of time it would
end up back in the US:-) Keep an eye out.

Just seen at the top of the highest point of Rockwood hall in the large fields
with the trail through it. It was in the area of the old wooden fence
enclosure. Which is surrounded by maples. Check the fields in this area.
This is at the Rockwood hall section of Rockefeller s p.p. off Rte. 9
The Newburgh waterfront park Franklin's gull is still there in the water in
front of the treatment plant. Park and go south on trail along water to plant.

numbers of them from Maine to at least NJ. Never heard of so many being seen

As of noon the cattle egret is not around the landfill. Hasn't been for
atleast an hour. Did have a flock of pipits and a Kestrel as well as savanna

Took a look this am for the unusual Herring Gull that's been reported here.
When I got there I found on the rocks at the end of the road a Herring Gull
with dull yellow legs, but the mantle looked to be the same color as the other
few Herrings nearby. I have seen yellow-legged Herrings a few
I just took a look at my poor photos of the two gulls at Old Point mentioned in
my previous post and still think the Herring isn't Shai's gull, but I may be
wrong. The black-backed gull is defintatley larger than the Herrings it's with
but still not sure if it's a Lesser or not. The back

I hadn't seen this posted here but a Tundra Bean-Goose was found with tens of
thoudands of Snow Geese at Montezuma NWR. The last I heard was it flew with
the snows recently, but don't know if they came back or not.

My friend just reported that the two or three Black Vultures are back at the
abandoned home behind her house where they were last year. They appear to be
checking it out for a nest site but we have yet to see them coming out of it or
going into it. They sit in the trees above it and fly low

nest site. Been seeing them for years at the intersection of Central Park Ave
and Ardsley Rd. right near where they're nesting. Always wondered where

than 13 Woodcocks. I had at least seven at once at the parking area by the

After seeing the fabulous Slaty-backed Gull and the Glaucous Gull this am early
I decided to take a walk around the Ramble and North end to see what was

Back in the '90s a Spotted Redshank showed up in Brooklyn in a marina during
the winter which I was able to see nicely. The question is there were two or
three Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks with the Redshank and a few yellowlegs and

Went to see if I could find the Golden Eagle(s) at Ten Mile River Preserve on
Berkshire Rd. in Dover Plains today. After a late start because of the ice
everywhere I found out you can't come from the south on Berkshire since it's
closed a few miles down the road so I went back and came in from

The previously posted Amityville mottled duck was still there as of around

Found and interesting nesting situation today. Saw a ravens nest in the center
of a cell tower platform and a osprey nest on the side top of the tower. Never
seen both nesting with each other:-) Cool. It was in Scarsdale off Central

Does anyone know how common Slate-colored Juncos with white wing bars are?
Over the years I've seen a few in NY that have them but otherwise look like
Slate-coloreds. Today I had another I observered for awhile at Ward Acres Park
in New Rochelle that sure looked good for White-winged
Just saw on the NYSRBA FB group that a Towsend's Warbler was seen on a homes
bird cam at a feeder briefly yesterday. Was not seen today. A great shot.

Just heard a Northern Shrike is being seen somewhere in the farm fields between
Glynnwood Farm and Topfield Center next to Fahnestock S.P. in Cold Spring off
NY-301. Was seen by at least two people in a tree.

I was driving down Central Ave. in White Plains about an hour ago passing Hmart
when I was quite surprised to see a juvenile Bald Eagle flying in circles about
100 feet or so above the road. It was being semi-harassed by a bunch of crows.
It was also seen around 10am this morning by my father
Observing now an adult Golden Eagle at Thompson pond preserve sitting in a tree
as viewed from lake road by the culvert looking towards the mountain west.
Finally saw one here after over 40 years of birding. Didn't know if they were
still wintering here. Guess so.

Saw a dazed but alive Woodcock plop down in front of a building on the
northeast corner of Park Ave. and 53rd. st. this early afternoon. Poor thing
was stunned after hitting the building I guess and then plopped down on the
sidewalk across the street in front of us. Before I could get to it

Just wanted to post that my mentor and best friend Dr. John S. Moyle, formally
of Scarsdale, died on February 7 at the age of 84 in Kingsport, TN. He was
known to many in southern NYS through the birding circles and parcticipated in
the Bronx Westchester Xmas Counts for many years. We had
Both the Western Meadowlark and Swainson's Hawk were at the Bush Terminal Piers
Park at the end of 43rd. and the Sims Municipal Recycling Center at the end of
29th. this morning between 11am and 1230pm. Also seen was a Common Raven.

I was thinking of heading down to look for the Western Meadowlark at Bush
Terminal Park but not sure where to park. I see on google there is a small
parking lot at the western end of 43rd off of 1st at the entrance to the park.

I figured they'd show up in NY soon. A large flock of around 40 or I think it
was was seen in MD heading north yesterday. Nice.

While out shopping we stopped by for a short visit to the Monk Parakeet colony
at Trinity School on Church St. in New Rochelle. There are nests in all the
light fictures but only had birds in three of them with a total of about 4
visible. Also had an American Kestrel and an Osprey on top of
Nice bird Anthony. That's the 5th kite seen within the last hour in NY, CT,
and RI. Two were just seen in CT, two in RI, and yours. That's the most in
one day I've heard of in our general area.

It's interesting the number of Mississippi Kites being reported in the last two
days in NY, RI, and CT. Yesterday two were in CT, two in RI, and one on LI
reported all within an hour of each other and then the one now on LI.

her driveway and then sitting on the roof of her car! An unusual site to see

When I was at the TDBank on Central Ave. in Yonkers yesterday I was surprised
to see a N. Rough-winged Swallow flying low around the parking lot and then go
in and out of one of the drains on the wall of the back part of the property.

Loop Trail. I hadn't been there at this time of year in a long time, probably

Hi all,
Just to let people know I saw 10 Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks and an immature
Roseate Spoonbill in NJ this morning. I wonder if the ducks on LI are strays
from this flock since these were only an hour or so away and have been there
about a week or so. The ducks were in Monroe Twp.
While at my friends home in Scarsdale this am I had a small movement of birds
going through. I had a Winter Wren, 3 Ruby-crowned Kinglets, a Fox Sparrow,
several White-throated Sparrows, a Red-breasted Nuthatch, some Yellow-rumped
Warblers, some Dark-eyed Juncos, a few Tufted Titmice, a couple
I just had some siskins over my house in Yonkers for a new yard bird. Also, I
was just informed of a Mandarin Duck in a pond on the Winged Foot C.C. in
Mamaroneck. Unfortunately it's not viewable except by members. I was told it
escaped from a guy who lives adjacent to the club and who has
