I had a female Purple Finch at the feeders today which was the first at a
feeder
in years. Looks like it might be a good winter for finches. There are
already a good number of finches down and some reports of grosbeak and Boreal
Chickadee. My friend in Maine had some Bohemian Waxwings in

Island Park. Got there around 7:15 and stayed til about 8 :15. It was there
giving great views, some as close as 20ft or so. It was very active feeding
on various berries and just moving around. Quite a nice bird to get in

Had the Northern Lapwing in Storrs, CT at around 3:30pm today. It was out of
view, but about 10 minutes after I got there it was flushed (unfortunately) by
some birders. Would've liked to had longer looks but atleast got nice views of

mammals have smaller than normal individuals in the population. I agree the
bird has a few characteristics of Loggerhead but to me most of the
identifying points such as bill hook size & color, behavior, body color,

Went to look at the Hermit Warbler (probable first fall female) at Sunken
Meadow
SP this am at 9:20. It gave great close views for the ten minutes I was there
and was still there when I left. Pretty nice. It's amazing that this bird
showed up almost exactly 8 years to the date at the bird I

I guess the hawks like it here. The female adult Cooper's Hawk that was here
yesterday is sitting in a tree near where the Red-shouldered hawk was a few
hours ago. Was able to get some nice photos of it but not full frame like the
other. By the way the Red-shouldered was seen about a half

found in the Pere David's Deer exhibit at the Bronx Zoo today. He saw it

Just had a Hermit Thrush at my window feeder. Hadn't had one in the yard all
winter so it was nice to finally get one. Also, the resident female
Copper's Hawk just attacked the flock of Mourning Doves (15+) that comes to my
feeders. Once again it missed though did get some feathers. Got
My Hermit Thrush was back again today feeding on the window feeder. I'm
surprised it's eating the mix b/c I think of them as fruit and insect eaters.

Here, Here. I'm glad so many people responded to the unbelievable actions of
this person. As I've said before not all but many if not most so called
photographers have no scruples and will do anything to get close to their
quarry. You would think that when this guy found the end of the trail
I know have two gorgeous Fox Sparrows at my feeding stations. They are such
beautiful birds. The Hermit Thrush is still putting in appearences aswell.
Spring must be close cause all the birds are more vocal and the grackles have
arrived back at the feeders and nesting trees.

Was able to see the 5 Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks at Wallkill River NWR's
Liberty Loop Trail at 8am today. They were actually north of Oil City Rd. in
the second impoundment on the left where all the mallards and pipers are. Had

For the second time in three days I had a female Ruby-throated Hummingbird join
the male Baltimore Oriole and catbirds at the feeders. I was very surprised
since they don't breed around where I live and they should've been through by
now. I guess it's just a late migrant north. Pretty neat.
I just had the two male Baltimore Orioles and juvenile oriole at my feeders
together. It just occurred to me that maybe the other "male" just might be a
female with male colors. I know some females can look similar to males but are
usually obviously female but this one is identical to the

The Gray-hooded Gull was seen by myself, Doug Bloom and Orlando Hidalgo from
around 8am to 9am at the same spot across from the ferris wheel where it has

Went on a brief frip to the south part of Pelham Bay park and had a small
influx of migrant warblers. Most notable were a pair of Hooded Warblers but

The juvenile White Ibis in Park Ridge, just south of the NY border in Bergen
Co., was still at the Silver Lake off of Mill Rd. as of about 9am this
morning. It was on the north end where the river comes out by the sand bar and
was feeding along the far shore and on the land. Quite nice views.
Had a first year juvenile Bald Eagle flying over the marsh/pond that is south
of Franklinton Vlaie in Franklinton on Rte. 145. Probably one of the young
from Franklinton? Possibly.

Went to Read Sanctuary this am from 8am to 8:30 with no pelican in sight. The
usual wintering waterfowl were around plus a couple of male Cooper's Hawks at
close range but no Brown Pelican. Oh well.

Had an American Woodcock fly up from the median across from the main entrance
at the Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown Heights tonite at around 9:30pm. It

For you NYers who don't get the Connecticut list there is a gorgeous male
Painted Bunting being seen at the Cove Island Park in Stamford. The park is
adjacent to where a White-winged Dove is also being seen at a private
residence. I've saw both, quite exciting.

While working at Somnia, Inc. on Commerce Rd. in New Rochelle I saw a pair of
Peregrine Falcons calling and flying around the tallest building in the city
which is easily seen from where I was. One bird was carrying a dead pigeon and

Had a Bald Eagle flying over where I work at 10 Commerce Rd. yesterday. That
seems to be a popular area for raptors. Since I started working there in

possibly heard calling; nice bird, hope it's not a bird from the European
finches being released in the Chicago/Wisconsin area)
1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet (feeding on suet, unusual)
Had a flock of about 12 Monk Parakeets flying low over the parking lot at 10
Commerce Drive today struggling to fly during the strong windy/rainy weather.
Also had another Cooper's Hawk.

The birds sure keep popping up in the area I work in New Rochelle. At 4pm
today I had three Common Ravens cavorting about 150 feet above the building I
work at heading more or less west to east. Once again the location is 10
Commerce Dr. I wonder what next will show up!

The previously reported Slaty-backed Gull in Beacon of course wasn't there
while I was there from 2:30 to 4:30pm, but did see a nice adult Lesser
Black-backed Gull and juvenile Iceland Gull. Also missed the three eagles that
were there before I got there.

The peregrines were back flying around swooping at each other and calling over
the Trump Plaza. They were joined by a third smaller one. They were making
chirping sounds which I had never heard before. Quite cool.

Two of the Common Ravens were back flying low around 10 Commerce Drive again

Had two of the Common Ravens I've been seeing at 10 Commerce Dr. in New
Rochelle again yesterday flying in a northeast direction. They are always
coming back and coming from more or less the south so are definately in the
immediate area when roosting because I see them usually in the early to

Then at noon one was flying around and calling over the train tracks and landed
on the huge billboard across from Commerce Drive. It called and hopped around
on the sign going down behind it for about five minutes,
No ravens yesterday but the pair of Peregrine Falcons on the Trump Plaza in
New Rochelle was giving a nice display flying around again. Quite
spectacular. Also, had the Hermit Thrush back at the bath and a grackle at the
feeders today. Spring is almost here!!

Just as I was leaving work today at 3:55pm one of the ravens flew over low
calling and then circled the Trump Plaza and headed south. I'm thinking more
and more my ravens are definately the Co-op City ravens. A coworker lives
there and has always wanted to see bald eagles and ravens so I told

Had the raven pair again flying due north both yesterday and today about
8:15am, most likely coming from the Bronx. Also had the peregrine pair dive
bombing a redtail that was flying to close to the Trump Plaza. Nice action by
the falcons, at times almost hitting the hawk.

friend Scott Perry yesterday late afternoon and saw some good stuff but no
