There was a female Rose Breasted Grosbeak feeding on the Cedar berries
in my yard with a couple of Cedar Waxwings. Strangely never got to
the feeder where they visit annually in the spring. Never saw one in
the summer.

I have been seeing a single Turkey vulture around my dock for weeks,
today joined by a second one and escorted away by the pair of Ospreys
who finally kicked out the Canada Geese from their nest this morning.

As the American Crow nesting on a White Pine on my neighbor's property was
escorting a Sharpie away one of the two Purple Martin scouts in my colony
flew up and started dive bombing the Sharpie.

Now I know why the Raven was soaring over my house for a while last night.
It dived into the colony,five minutes ago, I am sure it was unable to grab
one. The PM's in hot pursuit it flew east.

On my many Cedar Trees in my property, should have been stripped of berries
by now, where 30-40 Cedar Waxwings feeding non stop for 10 minutes.

I saw 35 Barn Swallows on an 18' boat in West Neck Creek, Shelter Island
while trolling for Snapper Blues. I saw many more on other boats . I have
been trolling around boats for ten years here, never seen this many Barn
Swallow on boats.

I must also add that I see hundreds of Tree Swallow moving west starting at
this time of the year over the creeks, this year maybe 10% of the Barn
Swallows.
At least in my Purple Martin colony where I have a Tree Swallow gourd away,
I found only one or two survive out of four or five,where I never
Monday 9/17 on the way back from fishing off Montauk Pt, I saw more than a
dozen Cory's a mile from the point, didn't stop to see if there were any
Greaters among them.
Further west, outside Ft. Pond Bay in 55 ft of water there were 2 Cory's
and a Manx.

There is a Nashville Warbler in the yard feeding on whatever is left
of the Goldenrod.
Yesterday there was a Razorbill under the feeding Bonapart flock west
of the Schinnecock Inlet in about 40 ft. of water, diving frequently.

The previously reported Glaucous Gull was north of the Ferry on the
rocks close to the Lighthouse with other gulls and all the common sea
ducks and a Great Cormorant at noon yesterday. It lifted after 15
minutes and dissapeared south of the Ferry Slip. I was unable to find
Barrows Goldeneye.

I too had 2 Screech Owls call back and forth from adjacent yards last

I have been at 236 Dune Rd. Quogue since October 3 and have seen
since, all the common species possible on the beach for this time of
the year.
This morning at 9:30 AM there was a YBC in the yard, I saw from inside
the house which vanished by the time I was out.

There was a movement of Blue Jays numbering at least a hundred, from WEST
to EAST, which I had never seen at this time of the year besides the usual
suspects.
Many Golden crowned Kinglets, Red breasted Nuthatches, Yellow rumps, Cedar
Waxwings and a pair of Sapsuckers.

A Red Headed Woodpecker was seen in a yard In Southold, in the North Fork
of Long Island.
As the homeowners had feeders in the yard and own bird guides since the
1980's they are very familiar with the Red Bellied Woodpecker.

Around noon today I checked the fresh water wet lands by the Mashomack
Preserve
visitor center for the third time this year and was able to find 8 Rusty
Blackbirds, 5 males and 3 females. I reported it at e-bird, hope it reached
the research group.

One male, on a high branch this afternoon In Westmoreland(Peconic Trust

around 2000, It may have been my first Turkey Vulture, I started birding
around that time.

roost site, but not confirmed.

I just heard in NPR that two birders were taken to Riverhead hospital
after being struck by lightning yesterday afternoon and their injuries
were not life threatining.
