console in ubuntu and you would see a long exception with something
another possible issue is that your default table_scheme is not utf8. Latin
will not work as there are a lot of foreign characters.

charsets are utf-8. If openmeetings requests a utf-8 client/client
connection it will get them.

OpenMeetings is a very exciting technology. Unfortunately many of us on
Debian/Ubuntu are being plagued by a problem that hasn't received a single
suggested fix in a year. The problem is that when you visit
http://localhost:5080/openmeetings/Install and then click on Step 1 you get
a blank page.

There is no need to install:
Red5 = OpenMeetings package already contains Red5 as default Servlet Engine
OpenLaszlo = Is not needed to run the program and to compile it from source
openlaszlo is already bundled in the source distro.
