Hi,
I tried to install solaris 10 on my laptop HP

this ... However i tried this with Belenix ,the live

Another thing, when I mount a FAT32 with mount -F

The are error msgs file to large. This error also
applies if I try to place the file on NTFS (from
within XP) and copy it from there. I can not copy
large files to UFS or to ZFS.

As a switcher from Linux, you get really turned off on Solaris when you hear
that you cant even correctly access a ntfs partition! Come on, this is not the
1980's - my friends say when I tell them about Solaris. A superior OS as
Solaris is, should provide you with the basic stuff; email, watch
I will try MPlayer. Thanx you all, for your prompt reply. You can always get
help for Linux, but Solaris has a smaller user base, so I was worried about
getting Solaris help. Not any more.

How can I be sure that I have copied all my data from NTFS to ZFS? Directories
and files just disappears, and reappears from time to time. It is very hard to
say when I have copied everything, or not.

Don't use the NTFS mount. Use the ntfscp utility that works
bugreport with gdb backtrace?
Had you written `mdb`, I would have been able to deliver a stack trace. I've no
experience with `gdb` whatsoever. As in, zilch.
you must be using some pre-packaged version that
doesn't include libavcodec.
recompile an svn checkout and be happy :-)
Oh
BTW, I am talking a lot about ZFS and Solaris and got
several of my Comp Sci friends to try Solaris out, in

Something must be wrong with your build as Mplayer rarely crashes for me.
What ever is wrong with my build of Mplayer is wrong for everybody else, for
I installed it from Blastwave.

Ok, I just installed mplayer from blastwave and it seems to work fine, although
some file types were not playable. gmplayer is the gui version and it seems to
be an ok substitute for vlc? We'll see later, when I'd tested it a bit.

Ok, I tried to use mucommander which is a norton commander clone. mc -
midnight commander from blastwave works too but not as good as mucommander for
copying ntfs. mc tries to copy files from ntfs to zfs, and when the ntfs mount
starts to show problems, mc breaks and quit the copying

solaris
The version of libm available from
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/downloads/devpro/is rather old (about a year and
a half). Is there any chance we can get a more up-to-date version thrown over
the wall?
Thanks
Andrew.
