Hi,
I'm a real novice when it comes to building kernels. Therefore, my question
might seem simple but the solution is not obvious to me.
I'm compiling the opensolaris kernel source and I'm wondering if there is a
documented mapping between the hardware I'm compiling on and the cpu-specific

Thats my current approach. By using a kernel module there are even less
occasions where the whole kernel need to be compiled. But still, it hurts to
wait on those occasions :)
Thanks for all your help.

Hi Ian,
Yes, you are right. There are several pc's here that are much more powerful.
However, although I haven't tried it myself, my impression is that the
cross-compiler (i86 gcc that produces sparc code) is not able to compile the
whole kernel without problem. But I might be wrong. Would be h
Hi Shawn,
Thank you for the info, did not know that the build system had so little
opportunities for distribution.
Unfortunately, this is the most "powerful" hardware I have available here, so I
will have to make use of it.
The only upgrade I can do additionally is to add another 512MB to one
Hi,
I have three machines that all run opensolaris. My intention is to compile the
source of a kernel and to distribute the compilation over these machines to
save time.
As I understand it, in dmake you have a host (where you start the compilation)
and a number of build servers (where the comp
Hi all,
I want to thank you all for making the effort to help me. It turned out that I
could solve my original problem in a different way. You see, I was compiling
kernel code (build 57 src) on my server (build 77) and thought that there was
some compatibility problems that caused the compilati
Hi,
I have a dvd-image of the desired build, but infortunately the machine I'm
working with does only have a cd-player and no internet connection (of course
:).
Is it possible to split up the dvd-image and still make the installation work?
If yes, can I use a ordinary splitting software or do
Hi,
I need to get hold of opensolaris build 58, but it seems like the "oldest"
build available currently from the download page is 60. So, is there a way to
get older builds?
Regards,
Mladen
