Make sure you have write permission to $HOME/.mozilla/firefox.
If it is still not working, run
truss -fo /tmp/firefox.log firefox
And send me /tmp/firefox.log

Do you have write access to $HOME/.mozilla/firefox?
Please try rename $HOME/.mozilla and run firefox again?

When attempting to launch Firefox (via desktop icon or from taskbar at top) the
Starting Firefox Browser shows up
Open a terminal windows and run firefox.
What shows on the screen?

Success would indicate faulty plugin (likely Flash) or extension. These can then
be selectively disabled in Tools Add-ons menu.
