How do relate cost factor versus OSS? Trying not to be an a** here but
looking at business model it is more less the same as those proprietary. But
I do agreed with you that by the end of the day is how would you convince

Gotta start at the school and tertiary levels. Most of the lecturers will
only know how to code with MS technologies.
Linux Varsiti is a good attempt but there needs to be a more centralised and
concerted attempt.
As for Govt, well they will just outsource (good news for service
providers!). If n

It will scare the sh*t of those bureaucrats to get feedback from the rakyat.
Same reason why Warkah for PM site went down so soon. They just couldn't

One good idea is to do what the main trunk of the govt is doing - hold
an exhibition of your NKRAs and explain to the crowd so that it
reflects the excitement as it should. Otherwise we have to depend on
the 5,000 per day 'pau' lady.
Come to think of it why didn't the govt allow open blogging

the other reason for oss:

current experience with 2 ministries in putrajaya
ministry #1 - tender specifically requests for oss. besides cost, the
purpose is not to be locked down with licensing. and they can share with the

ministry #2 - already knew what feature was needed and required oss so that

Brian,
I am sure he does. Since I was in R&D and now in Training, I never really
got around looking at the numbers properly.
Although I can never attest to its authenticity (or otherwise), from my
experience dealing with agencies, there is seems to be a genuine interest in
FOSS.
As mentioned, I
Eric,
I am sure we can get Kaeru to revert on this if it is indeed his figures.
Kaeru has a good sense of economics based on our previous encounters so I am
sure he has a valid source if so.

A lot of the stuff are plucked from kaeru's figures...maybe it's time to ask
how he arrived at those numbers.

Azrul,
Couldn't agree more.
However, there are business rules we apply here to get the numbers.
Installing a single instance of OO.o really doesn't even register on our
radar. We are looking at the very least one FOSS stack on the back end.
Yeah one might not be much in a data centre of maybe a
Azrul,
Great point raised in the last paragraph about more relevant studies. Do
we have a detailed before and after statistic on this out of curiosity ?

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to belittle OSCC here, it's just that I believe
that claims must be backed by facts, not just some numbers plucked from the
air (maybe the facts are there that I just couldn't find it,
