I may be doing something wrong. I am trying to visit the list and I do not see how to access or view the discussions. I belong to AOTA's list and found your site through their posts. I appreciate your attempts to have this list as an ongoing thing, however if it has run it's course and it is rea

[OTlist] Doubling patients in acute rehab

2008-11-03 Thread Barbara H. Hale
I also work in a small acute rehab unit. Does doubling mean overlapping a session? A patient is set up and working somewhat independently the therapist turns to begin getting the other patient started on tasks. -- Options? www.otnow.com/mailman/options/otlist_otnow.com Archive? www.mail-arc

[OTlist] AARGH! Ideas to use for functional tasks

2008-12-01 Thread Barbara H. Hale
I work PRN at an IP Acute Rehab (previously in the school system, SNF, Mental Health IP and OP) When I am asked to come in to work I feel like I am more willing to come up with ways to use the "creativity" that Ilene from New Jersey is speaking about. When the caseload is high and I have worked

I just want to state that I am uncomfortable with the facebook style aota forum that is now set up. I see that the membership is not responding by posting questions etc. So now OT list is going to be my best way to be connected! Often folks misunderstand how to post allowing public access is my

I enjoy the potential for creativity that is needed to individualize treatment. I am frustrated by the time constraints that do not allow me to design an individual therapeutic program. (but does provide time for pulling out the pegs and cones) There is a factory worker mentality to timing trea

I have a bean bag tic tac toe game that I use for a reacher training activity. The grid for the game is painted on a fabric square that I place within reach on the floor. Each bean bag has an X or an O painted on it. All the items fit into a tote bag and I usually hold the bag for the patient t

I understand what you are saying Ron. However, I would much rather play a game with the reacher to get a pt. to demonstrate they have the skills to use it. To dump out a container of blocks and have the patient pick them up and put them back into the same container is a mindless thing. Having

Hi - I hope you are not insulted by my questions. I would like to understand more fully your treatment concept for a patient that is not independent in toileting. Is your setting usually in the pts home? Do you ask the pt to take a dry run into the toilet? Do you ask the pt if they need to actua

Whatever happened to the oval red white and blue patch that was worn on the sleeve? It was a "logo" that is gone now - obsolete. Professional staff don't wear any identifying markers now - I hate scrubs because no one can tell who is what. The housekeeping staff or the nurse or the therapist all

Last year we made a display board in the hall for rehab. It took a lot of effort, there was no response from anyone except our own people. we left it up for a month, then speech therapy put up a board focusing on speech therapy, the board is still up with speech stuff on it. We don't have time

It is difficult conceptualize what a day in the life of a dementia patient would be like. She probably will not initiate tasks. She is in need of someone to work with her on anything she does. Maybe she could help with clean up rather than cooking. Could she read the recipe to her husband whil

I have been a member of AOTA for a many years. I feel they have been instrumental in helping to keep the demand for OT in the workplace across all settings. We very possibly could have no setting to complain about if not for the management of our educational programs, lobbying for the benefit o
