Greetings
Just thought I would share an
example of what a woman can do. I received a women many years ago by
ambulance from a smaller centre who was a primip at 34 weeks in Prem
labour. Prior to transfer a VE showed the woman was a couple of cm and
obviously contracting. She ( a RN )
No flak here Aviva!!
I love to watch a baby birthed, totally
amazed by miracle unfolding. For myself, that is my own self interest, I prefer
to watch the baby emerge as it is so so amazing and
beautiful.

Talk about "staring at bits" reminded me of a birth I was at a
few months ago. I was working with a midwifery student and a woman who was
giving birth to her first child. She was in the bath and the midwifery student
had been asking me what you do with birth in a bath. I had said that it can

Dear Sally
Do you know how much control is put on the practice of the midwives on the
Northern Suburrbs Program??
Ffor as Robyn T, Mary M and others have indicated one of the concerns is the
restrictions on practice when salaried or even contracted!
For NMAP and the midwives who support it an imp
Hi, All,
I'm ducking in preparation for the flak, but maybe
some women like having someone view their genitals with awe, to see the beauty
in them, to praise them. After all, we're not taught to love our own genitals,
which is terrible. A time in a woman's
life when she's not too inhibited
I too have been at a number of homebirths where baby had a
true knot in the cord which was only discovered post birth and was just an
interesting anecdote. We all noted that these were really luscious cords with a
lot of jelly, so the knot didn't appear to make a difference. I think knowing

Good point, MArgie. My best friend went to her OB at 37 wks because she was
extremely anxious about the birth. What did he offer her...time to talk? A
chance to express her fears? An opportunity to get some perspective on her
issues? No...he offered her the "choice" of an induction, to get it
Brings tears to my eyes, I tell you . Congrats to

Hi fellow
Dear Sally.
I understand exactly what you mean, and have been able to have
that sort of relationship with a birthing woman before. However, I do find
that many women will not move from the semi-sitting position on the bed, with
legs spread, looking at me to tell them ...'can you see it yet

Hi Mary, I really don't know if they knew before birth or not, I assume the knot might have somehow compromised the fetal heartbeat? Or just another piece of information that was misinterpreted by confused parents! something was going on though because there was enough concern about the b
A paediatric doctor friend told me after visiting Africa that the reason

Hi fellow listersthought I'd
I would go for either, salary based on # of women cared for per year or per
month or contract, but I think there should be an upper limit on the number
of women a midwife can take on. And, I hate to say this but maybe for those
of us newly qualified (if we are eligible for positions??) there should
