Hello Jo and Helen (and others who emailed
privately)
It is awesome news and fantastic! It has been
a big year, lots of support, lots of opposition and wonderful women who
want a choice and choose this sort of maternity care.
The 'powers that be' have been wonderful. Held

you stopped driving a car, or being a passenger? Awful things do happen, and
sometimes they aren't predictable. Even with hospital and birth centre births
things happen. You will see awful things in hospital, a lot due to
mismanagement and interventions. Ponder deeply, pray and
talk.
Can someone tell me why other states in Australia do not embrace the initiative of a Community Mid Programme, like the one in WA. I'm sure there is a reason or two for it not being a national program; and I presume its cuaght up with government? money? insurance? demand?
Love to hear your thoughts

Helen and
I run 2 yahoo groups and have never had this problem. Go figure?! Forums are
superior because these issues don't occur and not hard or expensive to run.

I have never sent any of my emails privately as well as to the list but I've

Hi Carolyn,
WOW, this is such awesome news. 2 huge
milestones within a week of each other. It will be great to meet the Belmont midwives and have
them share some of their experiences, so pleased they’re all coming.
Perhaps hb through Belmont
will be the next milestone to crack!

Thankyou for everyone's insight. Iam lucky that i have my own midwife at Northern Women's, and can choose
to start having a homebirth and if i don't feel safe iam booked in to a birthcentre. I think i will chat to her next visit about the birth i attended and do some debriefing. Iam preparing men
Hi Kelly,
I think writing a birth plan is a great way for a
woman to think of her choices and force her to research and consider
different options. Even if the birth plan stayed in her bag she has already
gained so much by writing it. I have been planning to set up one of those

Hi Nat,
Another really empowering book is "Ina May's Guide
to Childbirth" if you haven't read it yet and "Baby Catcher" by Peggy Vincent.

Hi,
Just wanted to add, that I am currently on another Australian list (yahoo

Hi Everyone,
Can I first stress that this list is not moderated - no-one checks
emails before they appear and no messages are "filtered" out. This
is one of the few email lists that are free and open in this way.
Everyone is welcome here!
The list sometimes has problems, and we will investi
Hi Lisa,
This illustrates the point I made earlier. If a message is sent to
several lists at the same time, your ISP may decide that it is a spam
email. We are definitely not blocking anyone's emails - again
everyone is welcome to contribute here. The ozmid lists has been

Hi Nat, When I was doing my mid training my preceptor and I used to talk about the 'obstetric demons' that sometimes come and sit on your shoulder!! But if you look into the research on homebirth you will find that in healthy women, the outcomes are comparable or better than hospital birth.
Hi Kelly, I'm coming in very late on this discussion but just wanted to add my two cents worth. I like birth plans for a few reasons: 1. they show the women that they do have a choice in things ... alot of women still assume they have to do whatever they're told 2. my experience is th
