Julie,
I am after some references supporting that women gain from having antenatal care
by midwives in conjunction with GP's along the lines of what you have
said,thanks pete malavisi.
Excellent letter Mary, living in Busselton it is with sadness that I read
the letter from S.Keough. There is a real job out there just change the
mindset of perfect and what is classified as normal these days, well done. pete

Now Justine you are really appealing to the boys on the list, now you are
talking cars, but on a more serious note, you are dead right, NMAP is
achievable for this country and as I was told at one australian college of
midwives meeting that those who are not in tune with us in moving forwards

Sue how sad to read your email, I believe you have been a great support to
many women and their families and that you will never be forgotten, I can
only hope that with time you will recharge your batteries and continue on
your quest, once again the challenge is there for all of us to improve
Could people tell me of their experiences with birthing in dam water, we
really don't have enough rainwater on site to use, this dam water is used
for general washing etc it runs through the solar hotwater service but is

I'm not too fussed whether it is salaried or contract but believe the
service has to provided by the government and those who want to work
privately can continue to do so. I personally don't like dealing with the
money side of things though obviously need an income. yours in midwifery

on you Jo, you're spot we need to do this together, we have a local group here
and sadly I am often the only midwife who attends the meetings and all I can
think of is where is everyone else? Last week I put up a notice to set up a
working party of midwives to look at our local
Unfortunately it was deja vue for me reading your story, I think most of
us have been in similar situations, and yes it is very important to question why
these situations arise and is there any way that we could have done it better, I
believe we must constantly review our practices and speak
We had our own mini lauch in south west of WA and have managed to get a
great picture and short positive story on the front page of one of our local
papers today, well done to all concerned. Little bit by little bit I think
we may be getting somewhere.

I have a request to put to the list, could people email me with names of
computer software and how good they think they are, that they use in their
maternity units. I am particularly

Happy NMAP launch to all those who have put a huge amount of effort into
getting this off the ground. This is truly a milestone for Australian
maternity services, let's just keep the energy rolling.

Mary you are right there is some review but no one really knows about it down

such channels! Would really love to know more about

Dear Jo and all,

Just catching up on the emails, I fully agree with Mary, Carolyn and Lois
and all your cases are so typical of what happens out there in the real
world. It would be nice not to have these added pressures, one can hope
that with time and as more women opt for midwife led care that the tables

I've just completed the first ALSO course in WA on the weekend in perth.
For those who are not aware this is a mulidisciplinary course offered to
midwives, GP's and OB's. It basically deals with obstetric emergencies and
whilst american in origin it is evidence based and standardises management.
