Thanks for a direction to start looking. That doesn't seem to be the case as there aren't are large number of connections when it hangs. More testing shows that the httpd.portal process is just "hanging" it stops responding and stops logging to log files. Restarting just httpd.portal gets

Hello Cory, what you describe is WLC web authentication. It mean that the device stay on the same layer 2 network and is redirected to the captive portal if the device is unreg. For the flow policy you can use the wlc qos for that.
