I, too have a machine with Win98SE and one with XP. When I installed the latest version of Winamp on the XP machine, I went into preferences and set it to play all file types it would play. This causes Winamp to play everything it can, regardless of what other players you may have on the system.

it they are very inaccurate. MIDI is nothing like MP3 or WAV. The formats are totally alien to each other. MP3 and WAV files are audio files but MIDI files are series of instructions telling a sound module of some sort what instrument to play, what notes to play, for how long, how loud etc
