Thanks for the feedback.
I decided to uninstall Flash Player entirely, then I downloaded an
earlier version and installed that. Things are now back to normal so
there's no doubt that the latest update of Flash Player broke things
on my system, at least. My wife also installed

Those were always too expensive. I have only two auto focus film
cameras an MZ3 and a ZX-5n, and I have the battery, well grip is the
wrong word, but you know. Anyway, all my old batteries for that went
into flash units. The s-76 batteries for the LXen and MXen are still
good, but I feel you
I have a half dozen of those (not rechargeable) that expired last year, or
last, that will be thrown out next year unless someone steps forward. Same with
a half dozen CR123A units. All Sanyo, still in blister packs.

As most of you already know, I photographed "Dogs at Play" for my MobileMe
gallery for more than three years, placing all the viewable images to the tune
of 2k - 4k per year, all of them downloadable at a reduced resolution. Still
printable as 8 x 10, I believe (never checked).
