There were legendary A* 200 macros, I know some list members have a copy
I have one, bought around 18 years ago - a one owner. They were still
available new in Japan then, but I got mine domestically.
I've had pro Nikon users ask to examine it - the were well aware of its
reputation.
Althought not a macro per se, I've used my FA 300 mm f4.5 to give me the
working distance I required - it focuses down to around 7 feet.

As others have commented, there is the A* 200mm f4 macro, FA* 200mm
macro and Sigma 180 f 3.5 macro. These all go to 1:1. The A* is manual
focus, the other two are AF. On ebay and in the Pentax forums I have
seen a couple other brands of 180 macro's pop up but if I recall

And there have been some off-brand 180mm macros with a good
I have used a Kenko 2X converter with the DFA 100mm f/2.8 WR. Worked
fair enough. Autofocus got confused at close range. The lens is probably
not really f/2.8 all the way in.
I wouldn't be surprised if the new Pentax 1.5X TC works well with this lens.

Glad you liked the rest of the site. The pepper is a test shot, but from
what you read into it, maybe I should pursue it further. Have to get the
tech right first tho. Peppercorns are great subject because of their
amount of minute detail and ease to shuffle around.
