Right, we arrived home yesterday. The fires look like they're pretty much out

I'm often wrong. We have the white-breasted nuthatches as well, but I don't see

Excellent image with sharp details and nice bokeh.
The "grain" or whatever doesn't bother me at all, but if it were my image,
I might clone out or crop out the little twig over her head.
Most male birds are more garish than the females of the same species. I

Thanks Dan. It's definitely a nuthatch. The beak gives it away, as do the
markings. They can't get at the feeder upside down, so they attack it just like
the other birds.

I wouldn't say I prefer grain. I'm ambivalent. I almost always shoot in TAV
mode because the light varies greatly depending on where the birds perch. This
shot is in brighter light, and I used some flash fill. So much lower ISO than
the sparrow pic. No converter, handheld. Just for my personal
Thanks a Larry, Most of the birds perch on tree branches before going to the
feeder, so I don't need to encourage it. The nuthatches are somewhat of an
exception, although I have occasionally gotten them on a tree as well -- upside
