I just acquired the 90mm 2.8 AF in our mount in January, from B&H.
Awesome lens!
I am quiet please with its speed and performance as a 90mm and as a macro.
It even had a $50 rebate when I bought it!

Dear Tiger,
did I read right, you bought the new 2.8 version which goes down to 1:1,
correct?
I am not really sure I want/need that, but one of my concerns is its
manual focus capability. I understand on MF it goes in less than a full
turn (330 deg or so) from infinity to 1:1. The 90/2.5 MF I ha
Not necessarily. It could suggest that the lens is capable of that.
In any event, I'll keep mine (including the matched multiplier and hood)

I received a Pentax M 85/2 to replace my stolen Tamron 90/2.5 with. There
was a lot of discussion recently and someone wrote he prefers the Tamron
over the small Pentax, I want to add my two pennies on the handling. Since
I didn't get any pictures back yet, it is just the handling.

It was to me. I just picked up one of these (SMC 85/2
"M") about a week and a half ago, and I too like the
long throw of the focus ring. It seems that it makes
it easier to use for portrait pictures. I have so far

It seems that these days, my main opportunity to take pictures is while
taking a walk. Last Sunday, instead of going out with my 50/1.4A, I used my
neglected 85/2. You know what? It was just the ticket for the two shots I
took: a man teaching soccer to his small son, and a bird's nest low in a

Boris,
I have seen just the eyes done before and I gotta say that I really
like the amount of face in this one. I also like it not centered.
Quite a compelling photo.

Is that the Pentax M-100/4 macro you are testing?
You know there are A-100/4 macros & A-100/2.8 macros (my favorite).

Of course. But I can only test what I own.
And because these are both affordable and popular I thought a comparison was
in order.

I have the 49 mm version of the Tamron - had it for decades and it's
great with one exception, as mentioned in this thread of a few months

JCO,
This is the 49mm version
Brian,
It does exhibit the center spot issue when I use the flash.
Haven't seen it under natural light yet.
I've not tried using a hood yet.
