I am tempted to have the Spotmatic F Overhauled and the light meter
repaired. As for the lenses and flash, I may try to fix them myself. I have
another SMC Tak 55mm f1.8 lens which has fluid marks inside the front
element. The Kitstar 28mm lens on further inspection, has only the ding on

James,
For all the Spotmatics that are on eBay, this one was one to avoid. He
clearly told you the camera had problems and lens was dented and he was
selling 'as is'. When they go that far out of their way to tell you it is
junk, believe them!
About all you can do it try to clean the
Well, I hate to say it, James, but the vendor did say:
This lot is sold as is tho as I am not a camera expert, so I cannot guarantee that
a cleaning will solve the shutter
problem.
Of course that doesn't give him license to misrepresent anything. I would think
that about all you
if you didn't

You should be able to send it all back and
get most of your money back (minus shipping
both ways) if the auction was not sold AS-IS
But Paul, that's exactly what the listing said...
problems here and 'sold As-Is'.

I've had good luck by writing a very diplomatic letter outlining the
problem and asking if there is something the seller can do to help me
out. In each case, I've either received an offer to return for refund,
or a cash refund of part of the purchase price, even though the
auction was As Is.
Well, it depends. He did say the camera was AS-IS, so he may not let you
return it, despite the fact he totally misrepresented the 28 and 55mm
lenses. You can try though. Otherwise, you did get a SPF + 80-210 mm zoom
for $107. Not a bad deal, but I know it stinks because you still got
After reading your original message again, I still say contact the
seller with a diplomatic letter and see if he or she offers some sort
of partial or full refund. There's nothing great about the condition
of the lenses, as they stated, and the stuff would be a disappointment
to any buyer.

The SPF shutter/mirror was jamming (which I fixed), and the SMC Tak 55mm
f1.8 lens had the filter ring dented from the camera being dropped. The rear
