Brian, if you want a GPS logger only it will be a lot cheaper but will work just for that. I do use (and I know Ralf does as well) a Garmin GPSMap 60cx which recently plummeted price. Garmin eTrex range is known as well to be good devices. You may want to think about the intended uses of this dev
