As I recall, the last microSD card I bought from Amazon with their
"frustration free" packaging (apparently their slang for minimalist)
took me 15 minutes to find in the box ... still of course shipped
in a small cardboard box like 3x5x7 or so.

when i have seen SD cards for sale at my local MicroCenter or bought them
online, and even i think at Best Buy (where it's best to browse, not buy), they
come in much more minimal packaging; i believe Costco-type stores insist on
specific packaging as part of their contract with manufacturers; i
Richard and PJ have made some perfect points, what if the packaging is small:-
a) Warehouse losses
b) Stores pilferage
But the Costco packaging was 260 x 380 mm and no card storage case.
That is HUGE considering that an A4 letter head is 210 x 290 mm.

Thanks Christine & Paul, just that in my case the packaging was 10 x
15 inches (26 x 38 cm).
The money saved by down sizing it to 4 a 6 inch would have allowed
them to include a plastic storage case.
I have received some 3 emails from SanDisk since then offering to look
into the matter, only after
I expect anything they saved on reduced packaging costs would be lost to
increased shoplifting. If the merchandise was more easily concealable
the price might even go up.

The packaging is primarily for loss prevention, small, easily
pocket-able, items tend to disappear. I'd add the word valuable but
that's just not necessary. Long. long. ago I worked for Tandy Computers
as a service rep., and everyone working for Tandy had to spend some time
on the sales floor,
I would suspect costs would be higher ...
to cover the lossage of product in warehousing,
and other losses due to small size.
Consider the excessive Costco packaging .. they wouldn't ask for it if
it was not economically to Costco's advantage.

Bipin,
It looks like you are talking to an automated script or
to a script-reader-button-pusher.
SanDisk is notorious for such clowns (quite likely from some
answering center). I've spoken with a bunch of them when I tried
to replace my SD card that became unwritable through the loss of the
