Paul,
At the end of the day its gonna be worth what someone wants to pay you
for it. If you use ebay it can vary quite a lot depending on who is
bidding and how much they want it.
The k105/2.8 is indeed very hard to come buy so I guess you would
probably get a good price for it if you sold

My sentiments exactly. Although, in my case, I'm not a big wide angle user
so the 35mm focal length is usually wide enough for me.

Antonio,
I guess that SPLOSdb is the result of a practical desire to get the best
lens for the best price, combined with a strange compulsion to quantify
things. Photomatography is one of the few disciplines that satisfies both
sides of my brain - SPLOSdb is for the left side.

Just a heads up to my fellow Pentaxers that KEH has one of these fairly rare lenses
in. Sharp, contrasty, and a pleasure to use, as all K lenses seem to be, the caveat
being that the bokeh is mediocre (my opinion).

I missed one opportunity to buy a K105/2.8. It seems that PDMLers
like this lens very much. [snip] When I use my macro lens for
portraits I'm shooting at small apertures to get greater DOF, so
bokeh is not that important to me since I'm looking for maximum
sharpness.

I don't have a macro to compare it to, but the K105/2.8 handles well, and is a nice
focal length to work with, and is indeed sharp.
Bokeh can be pretty gruesome though, especially with any kind of out of focus
specular highlights. More than any other lens I own (or have owned) I have
There's a Takumar 105/2.8 metal threaded hood on U.S. EBay right now, but I
think the Tak used a 49mm filter.
I wouldn't be surprised if you could use a 135mm or longer hood without
vignetting.
When I had a K105/2.8, as I recall I had the original hood and it made a
handsome combination

Just wondering, how much have people have paid for their K105/2.8? Whats
considered a reasonable price for this lens?
Although I did miss out on the K85/1.8, I did manage to get the K105/2.8,
for about $280CDN (including tax). Just wanted to know how this price
compares to the majority

If you had a 105/2.8 a 100/2.8 side-by-side... why'd you choose one
over the other??
The K105/2.8 is an exemplary lens. It's sharp, it has good
bokeh, it's built very well, has a great feel when focusing -
IOW, it's a classic. The M100/2.8 is a mediocre lens. It's a
downsized plastic toy by comparison. It's neither as sharp
nor as well built.

I guess you can call it magic glass but the SMC-K 105mm f/2.8 is definitely
a better performer than the SMC-M 100mm f/2.8; this is not to say that
the M 100/2.8 is a poor performer by any standards.
I have owned both and the K 105/2.8 produced much sharper images with
excellent bokeh. I

I paid $109 for the M100/2.8 on KEH, which is not known for their low

Takumar was Pentax's line of screw mount lenses. These are top quality
lenses, most of which are still top performers by todays standards. Many
of the SMC Takumars are optically identical to their K series counterparts,

This is true, but although they are not cheap, they *are* generally fair.

money I'd get that FA 35mm F2!
