Scott, Rob, Rick, Godfrey,
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm trying out
VueScan and the other suggestions. Will tell
what happens after a few experiments.
Thanks,

I rarely scan a photo - and then not for high quality - I find the
Epson software simple to use and the results are similar for that

I have to admit that for the past two years, since getting the *istD,
I have scanned very little - just catching up on old backlog.

If what I'm scanning is just text stuff, I use Mac OS X's Image

prints, I'm not sure why you'd switch to Epson's software and not use
Vuescan. Any particular reason?

I just have to comment - I happened to own the same exact scanners -
Scan Dual II and Epson 2450. I always drive the Minolta with Vuescan
- the Epson varies - Vuescan for negatives/slides and the Epson

Depending upon when you bought Vuescan, and, after some point, which
version you bought, upgrades are free. I paid for Vuescan in 2000 and
have upgraded regularly. You should see whether your version supports
free upgrades and get the latest.

Was the image soft before you scanned it? If so I wouldn't blame the scanner.
Otherwise it looks like the slide moved during scanning.

I agree with the other respondent who suggested Vuescan. I've never
gotten results with the manufacturers' scanning software that could
even approach what Vuescan could get out of a scanner.
