still ran out
of time (and patience!) to get them satisfactorily scanned.

Yeah, that's why I suggested a piece of "construction paper" with a cutout for
the 110 negative to support the glass. I thought maybe mat board would be too
thick & I couldn't think of a good descriptive name for another thick but not
too thick paper ... maybe a heavy card stock?

For most flatbed scanners, the focus is fixed and their DOF is such that they
can easily accommodate a mm or two of film curvature. For best results, a glass
plate works well to hold the negative flat, with the caveat that the glass
itself must be extremely clean and the thinner the better to
Holding negs down with a piece of glass works after a fashion, but you usually
get some moire. Special glass or plastic made for that purpose works better. I
think Epson sells it.

I'm a little late to this but the Epson Perfection V550 is supposed to be
pretty much the same engine as the V500. I keep looking at one but I haven't
fired up my film scanner in such a long time

Interesting. I tried the free version to try & revive an HP2400 scanner.
It wouldn't work properly (parts of scanned pages were blank) so I
contacted Mr Hamrick who asked me to conduct a couple of tests & forward
the resulting files. He informed me that the scanner had croaked! Hard
to get
I have been on Linux for more than 10 years.
Never had a single problem with VueScan.
Mr. Hamrick answered my occasional messages in a timely and helpful manner.

Might have to consider. That's like almost thinking about it. "Ooh,
what a nice scene! I should take a picture by pushing the button down
on that camera I thought about bringing along"

I had looked into Vuescan several years ago, but it did not work with
the 8400f at the time. Canon is particularly egregious when it comes
to publishing hardware specs. I will re-investigate.

I might have to consider attending.

I have Epson V500 with those adapters (no longer on the shelves).
And I am a happy user of VueScan.
It is simply too good for a business model from the customer's point of view.
I also have a Nikon Coolscan V ED, a dedicated film scanner

Check if that scanner is supported byVueScan (it probably is). Great
scanning software that's compatible
