Just picked one up a couple of days ago. Couldn't shoot yesterday b/c of the rain. Shot some hand-held at 500mm just a bit ago. This is a pretty decent zoom lens. Though it is APO, at both 170mm & 500mm there is some fringing. I expect that from a zoom. Still, it resolves a great deal more

The two low points for the lens is the slow max aperture and the length it extends when zoomed. It is not a lens that can be used handheld (over 300mm), nor is it very useful for sporting events (due to the speed). I find that I get more use from my APO 300/F4. When I need the extra

Brian, I have this lens in Pentax mount. Overall it is an OK performer. AF speed is average compared to others that I use with my *istD. Sharpness is pretty good at one or two stops down. It is best at mid range (250-400mm), just as you would expect with a zoom. The two low points for the
