Thanks Joe and Godfrey for your comments. I am inclined to follow
your advice
hey,
Thanks all for your suggestions.
K-mount rentals seems to be completely non-existent. In Santa Barbara
(and LA), Samy's camera will rent Pentax 645 and 6x7 but no 35 mm
gear. I had thought maybe things would be different in the big Bay.
Thanks Joe and Godfrey for your comments. I am in
I've attempted to photograph the Elk at Pt Reyes. I wasn't expecting to do
so, and therefore didn't have a long enough lens, so I viewed the elk
through the finder of my friend's camera. He was using a 400mm, iirc. The
elk in that area, while not particularly afraid of human contact, seem to

I'm putting my 135mm f1.8 on eBay on the weekend, that could work well with a
2x converter

You can do a lot of photography with a 50 and a 135. I doubt you'll
find any place to rent you a lens (heck, I'll give you an A35-70/4 to
use if you want to stop in Sunnyvale on your way) ...
Trying to find a lens "wide enough to shoot a redwood" or "long
enough to be handy for wildlife"? W
I ran into the same problem here in Philly this past
spring when I wanted to rent a fast long lens. Three
places to rent N and C, no place to rent
anything else.
If misery loves company, at least K*-M**,
O**, and L shooters are in the same boat.

I know for a fact that K&S don't have any Pentax gear for rent,
which is why I didn't consider it worth mentioning them.

Well, there's always the option of doing some close-up photography in the
Pygmy Forest near Little River, outside of Mendocino. Also, on the road to
the coast near Philo, on Highway 128, if you time your shots right and
choose your location well, there are some good possibilities that can be

Not even K&S, John my guess is that they don't, but they should at
least be mentioned.

Yes, I think John is correct.
Your 28 mm. lens will not get in much more than baby redwoods, unless
you are 50 me

Any other suggestions/advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks

I recently shot a roll of Sensia again.
Man, I hate that film. It's grainy and unsharp. Colors can be okey
sometimes, but more often not.
Too bland when it comes to landskape. S
Hey all,
I'm going on a little road trip this weekend: heading north from Santa
Barbara along the California coast (but not the Pacific Coast
Highway), with a stop in the Redwoods area and ultimate destination
Portland, OR. I plan to spend a day or two in the Redwoods parks and
then drive on to
