Short of securing a dial or digital micrometer to the motor frame, you can
devise a quick and dirty but effective way to check for out-of-round, by
securing one end of a stretched out paper clip or stiff wire under an existing
screw, and bending it so the other end nearly touches the

governor had too much play. Also, lubricate the tensioner. That seems to be a

If you find that the pulley is not out of round just replace the felt on
the governor stop. Don't oil it. Use real wool F-1 or F-2 felt and not
fabric store fake polyester felt.

should it be left on before wiping? Is it safe on the decals?

I have used Kotton Kleanser for years and have had great luck with it in the
art restoration field. I have used it on phonographs on many occasions. Go
slow is the best advice I can give. On normal surfaces I leave it on for 5
minutes or so and than wipe down, but I repeat the process until no
