Marcy, Couldn't you trace the interior onto paper, cut it out, then trace it onto a piece of thick cardboard, and cut *it* out... then, perhaps, you could use the scalpel to cut the film around the cardboard. I don't know if this would give you a better fit than trying to go around the outside

Another low tech solution might be to take a sheet of aluminum or steel larger than your film and cut a circle out the size you want your film. Then lay the parts down: circle (aluminum) film outside of circle (aluminum) table/firm surface and press down firmly (you might have to tap around the
