OH yes, run your cameras on a isolated network. I never mix my cameras into
the LAN, the only point of entry from the outside (if you need it ) is the
DVR.
With ZoneMinder, you can make it pretty hard to access it if you want. Or
if you
just want local console, you can view from the DVR.

That is what I like about ZoneMinder, it is FOSS and it is your job to make
it as
secure as you want. I had an instance where I thought I had removed all of

PhPMYAdmin stuff from one (I had installed it to do some changes) I did not
get
a small piece removed and the bad guys got in through that

Which is why I asked if there are any known to be secure or that could be
made secure.

Personally I will not be joining the IoT.
I'm doing this from memory but, in the Mayan *Popol Vuh* (yes I have a copy

the Maya are attacked

Cameras have to be powered somehow. Wired cameras get their power over the
cable, CAT5 or coax. Wireless cameras need either batteries or wall wart.
Murphy says camera battery will be dead when event occurs. Wall warts have
short cables which greatly limits camera placement. Cables for wired

Chuck,
Running wire is a less favored route. Yes, more secure but has other
concerns such as a hole through the siding and inner wall and running the
cable to the switc

A while ago, my area also had a series of car break-ins. And I was
thinking if there's a way to deploy drones to police the area automatically.
Just curious if anyone has thought about this possibility.

I use ZoneMinder as the DVR and I prefer wired cameras if you can run the
cat5/6. I have used wifi linked cams but never realy trusted them. If you go
wireless, I would go with a good product. I do NOT trust the memory cards

A less expensive and highly reliable solution would be for me to mount a
trail camera (or two) outside and just exchange SD cards now and then.

A while ago someone exploded a small pipe bomb in my mailbox. While this
is the first incident of its type in the 24 years I've lived here past
performance is no guarantee of future behaviors. And, I have a couple of
vehicles parked outside (one in the driveway the other along the curb).
