With both Zonealarm and ESET NOD32 - there have been AlienBBC socketwrapper failures even when the security software is disabled. The problem was only resolved by uninstalling the software - disabling was insufficient. As a test can you uninstall the firewall software and see whether it makes a

when I ran the command line test tonight i had the occasional drop out in the stream (which it hasn't done on other nights). I'm on a 10Mbps internet connection in the UK. I have a feeling that it is "refreshing" after about 7 seconds and ignoring the 30/60 second setting in the server. -- fa

It looks like mplayer is not managing to get any data from the BBC site. I think you have checked mplayer works but could you time how long it takes for mplayer to start playing a stream. I think you said you used the AlienBBC install, if so there is an mplayer test batch file in "C:\Program Files
