The mplayer test is a direct test of network which means the problem is either ISP or modem. Some modem still apply strange Application-gateway behaviour on low security levels. I can't find any ref to a b-box2 modem - possibly an ISP rebranded unit. Look at the label underneath for a model

Port fowarding is usually from Internet to PC and so I think is it is not applicable. What you need to do is open port 554 from PC to Internet. Sometimes the associated security is called Application Level/Layer Gateway (ALG). -- bpa

The Roku problem is unlikely to be the same as this thread unless it happens when trying Listen Again streams. The Roku has an Squeezebox emulation problem - if BBC doesn't respond within 6 secs it will hang. I used to have a Roku and wrote a patch for SS6.5.x - you may have been using it.
