it by re-entering my password for Spotify on the Settings advanced page
(and clicking apply, sometimes restarting LMS as well).

did you try with the default v7.2.2 first and then upgrade to v7.9?.
when I have installed LMS on My Qnap I always started with the default
7.2.2, configured everything that I knew would work OK on the old
version and then upgraded to the new.
On the Qnap there were also certain lines

(Intel-based), I seem to be having some problems running spotify via

You don't -need- SSL for this to work. The plugin defaults to using
https for connecting to and sending data back to the cloud-based

I am not familiar with the content sent by Tidal and Qobuz but I suspect
they play "tracks" which are essentially flac files. The BBC is
streaming a live stream which is one continuous infinite flac file

Qobuz also stream flac, so it's clearly do-able (but I've no idea how).
LMS 7.9 on VortexBox Midi box, Xubuntu 16.04, FLACs 16->24 bit,
44.1->192kbps.
It appears, when I have tracks in the list playing and then throw new
ones into the playlists.
The weird thing: It appears on iPeng, not in the web gui nor on my
android app.
That makes me think of some issues with the iPad or iPeng.
I have it too , hard to tell how to reproduce .
Maybe if you throw several albums at the time in the now playing list.
It was not always like this ? Cant remember when i firts saw it , last
