I'm a bit confused.
If you did run 2.0.10 this means you should have iOS 4.2.1 on your iPod
and with that iOS Version you should still be able to download iPeng
directly from the App Store. You'd get version 2.0.16 which is the
latest one supporting iOS 4
The restore probably doesn't work because
Hi Pippin
I installed iPeng 2.0.10 on my 2nd gen iPod Touch (4.2.1) in February
2013 but had to do a factory restore recently.
I'm trying to reinstall iPeng (now 2.0.17) but I get the message: 'The
app "iPeng" was not installed on the iPod because it requires a newer
version of iPod software.' T
Nice, retired my old 2g touch to a bedside alarm clock but now I can
also control my Boom with it. Thanks!

Hey, it went through :)
iPeng 2.0.10 will be on the store later today and should be back to
support iOS 4.2.1 and iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G
Great news.

We'll see. It's currently waiting for review at Apple.

As a buyer (who wished he'd checked compatibility ...) of two 2nd gen
iPod Touches on eBay recently, I'd be very interested in this too!

OK, technically what I was trying to do worked fine so I've got a
working ARMv6 version (for 2nd generation devices) of iPeng 2.0.x here.
It's not as beautiful as iPeng 2.0 on iOS 5 and 6 since the redesign
doesn't really work with iOS 4 so all the custom buttons, bars etc.

I wasn't suggesting that we break the licensing, only get a copy of an
older version of the app. Definitely buy the iPeng app.

Well, I'm not sure it will work. I'm sure there are ways to crack the
copy protection and install it on a jail broken device but at least in
some countries you might break a few laws on the way.
Also, I'm not 100% sure the in-app-purchase for the playback would work
that way.

Hi Steve, thanks for your help. I have very limited knowledge in this
area, if you could extract it would it be possible to install? Are there
license restrictions on doing something like this, if there are maybe it
could be compensated by making a donation to the developer?

Hi,
I happen to have an iPod 2 running the last version of iPeng that was
supported on that platform. I will try to figure out how to extract it
from my iPod into a form that you can use.

I totally understand that support can't continue indefinitely on
outdated products but it's still a shame that they've made it impossible
to get the old apps that were compatible.
Thanks for your consideration Pippin. I hope your idea works, if so

You can use it without a sim card except then you active the phone the

and then turn on WiFi.

There is currently none.
The problem is that with Apple's current developer toolkit it's no
longer possible to build Apps for 1st and 2nd generation devices (the
processor platform is no longer supported) and you have to use that
toolkit (the current generation) to submit Apps to the App Store so
Hi Guys
I have an old Gen 2 Ipod touch and an dock and I was hoping to start
using them as an additional squeezebox player in my existing system. I'm
looking for an app similar to Ipeng or squeezecast that is compatible
with the old IOS4.2.1 that the 2nd gen touch runs on.
