After a full rescan, the directory is populated with all of the
"xx.missing' files. Strangely, there is a ".missing" file for every
artist (I think it is every) regardless if a photo was found or not.

responses correctly, where the on used in the scanner (LWP::UserAgent)
is not. I'm only getting partial responses from the server, and the
client doesn't handle this properly. I'll have to investigate how I can
tackle this.
I think you are using the wrong folder. Its the second box not first.
If you check artist.missing as you have then the folder will be
populated with Joe Bloggs.missing if it cant find artist art for Joe
Bloggs.
If you then find an image for Joe Bloggs you can remove the .missing and
replace

If no local artist artwork is found, then MAI would indeed look online.
Or can they be stored in the album/artist library folders themselves if
permissions permit? That's obvs preferable since everything will be
backed up etc.
Tx. Originally I thought those folders were for my original copies of
album/artist artwork, but mine are all in the album folders, so I'd
discounted them. Plus I didn't know what the 'variable filenames option
above' was (referred to in the Info text).
