Forgive me if this is a rehash but someone theorized that the 1400's
memory could be expanded using a PCMCIA adapter and a CompactFlash
or SmartMedia card. I happened upon such a card at Radio Shack for
only about $15 then noticed Costco had 128MBs for around $55.

Hello
I have a 64Mb CompactFlash card in my PB1400 formated as a Mac-disk, I use
it as a RAM-disk for my Weather-station reading and data store.

I'd work, but the one gotcha is flash memory has a limited number of write
cycles. In a digital camera or the like, they'll last a good long while.
But, used as virtual memory where there could be thousands of writes in a
short time, it'll die very quickly.

I won a bid on a supposed 32 MB module for my PB 540c. The seller says
he can't test it but will refund the price if it doesn't work. I asked
some questions about it and it turns out that he found the thing in an
anti-static bag at work. He provided me with the numbers on the chips.

I could use a bit of guidance here from some compassionate pb user. I've
installed this 4 gb ide drive in place of the 500 mb one. Problem is, I
can't get anything to see it. Right now I'm booted off 8.1 on an external
scsi cd/rom. Tried 8.5 too with same results.
So the 8.5 and 8.1 cd's
Hi David i sometimes come across this when cross platforming drives.
Try it with out the jumper, and then if you have not already just use drive
setup .
One thing does the drive make any noise lick clicking or spining up then down
if so has it been dropped or any weight placed on the drive

That's the setup I had in a 1400C a year or two ago.

Hi David R.
Now I could say since it won't show in your machine, you should sell it to
me at a reasonable price. But I won't.
We had the same problem with the 5300 and an IBM drive. Tried everything we
could think of and still no go. We put it in my wife's 2300, set it up,
loaded OS8.6, put it in

you don't have the jumpers right. They're not always the same bt different

Are the active matrix screens on the 540c really
that much better than the passive on the 520c?
...I can't think of any good reason not to go for the 540c.
Don't color screens consume battery power at a faster pace than
greyscale? Do active screens use more power than passive? Also, one
