I know this is probably a stupid question, but is there any way that a
DOS-format floppy can be read by a Mac or a Mac floppy read by a Windows
machine. I have a lot of files I need to transfer from my Win XP machine
to my OS8 machine, but I need to know if floppies will work or if I need
to
I forgot to mention that I'm running a PowerBook 190, if that makes any
difference.

Hope this helps.

Tell us what kind of machine you are running OS 8 on.
Also what kind of files you are referring to. Dos code ?
What OS is on the PC? You should have no problem transferring .jpeg,
.pdf, .word etc if you have programs on both end to read them.
Acrobat Reader is free. . You probably have

I'm running a PowerBook 190. The files are mainly .txt and .doc
files. I'm running Windows XP Home on the PC end. What I'm trying
to do is move my writing projects off my PC onto my PowerBook so I
can carry them around with me.
Word on both would help. Or send it as email in plain text to

Yes, but you would require Hard Disk Speedtools(R), if not an Apple ROMed
version.
IBM made 500 MB, 750 MB and 1000 MB versions (and some smaller versions
as well), although the 1000 MB units are exceptionally scarce.
Do you know where you would find this Hard disk Speedtools program?
How would I use it.
if it helps, the drives I have are around 270 meg.
Thanks - Jared

Howdy all!
I have a game that I think will run quicker if I copy the CD to the desktop.
I know in OS 9 you could do that. How do I do it in OS X? I just got my
Powerbook and have not learned enough yet about the OS to know.
Thoughts?

Greetings, listers.
I have a PB1400c. It was working fine, when a low battery warning
message appeared. At this point, it was plugged in, and running on
AC. A few minutes later, the unit just shut down. I have tried
restarting, even while using the reset button on the back. When I

Hi Mac Experts,
I would like to buy a PCMCIA card to get USB ports on
my 3400c. Do you know if I normally need drivers to
make it work with my Powerbook? Do I need to make sure
the manufacturer supplies Mac drivers?
I know the other thing to be concerned about is if the
card will physically fit
I'm not an expert but I believe Apple has a USB Card driver. Don't know
much else besides that.

Some one said something about needing to Apple ROM it.
But other than that I think it should work.

Hello Dave,
Look in the Utilities folder that is in the Applications folder of the root
HD (or boot HD). There you'll find a utility called Disk Copy. Its use is
pretty much the same as before, only the file type of the image will be a
.dmg instead of the former .smi
If you choose read only or

I tried that and it still said that Disk 1 was not in drive. Any other way I
can fool it? I tried both read only and master cd/dvd.
