I can only speak from my experience with the 500
series, but my 540 has done this before--all kinds of
crazy patterns started showed on the monitor. The
problem was the video ribbon being loose at the
connection to the monitor. Pressing gently on the
monitor housing at the spot above the connector
that looks similar...what board did you replace?

This is what my 5300cs did a while ago, and I had to get the board
replaced. Like you, I could view the screen on an external monitor.
Has your 'book been through the REA program? You might get lucky :)

I have been given a Powerbook 5300cs with a problem. The screen sometimes is
fine, but mostly there are big blocks or stripes or other gargage all over
the screen. None of this shows up on an external monitor. Two questions
1. Is it the screen itself or something that drives just the screen?
2.
