We had this discussion before. I can't use network solution. PM uses quite high page memory. This is even worse on my TiBook compared to desktop machine. In my line of work, digital audio editing, this TiBook page memory insufficiency is a known issue, and it seems PM is hitting the same spot.

in your case I would setup the powerbook to NOT delete messages on server after downloading and on the other computer (desktop) to DELETE AFTER RETRIEVING. This means that the desktop will have all messages. And on the powerbook you can delete what you want to keep it small. I have somewhat such
